It is great news for India before the Tokyo Olympics 4 Indian sailors, including the pair of Varun Thakkar Ganapathy Chengappa with Nethra Kumanan and Vishnu Saravanan, have successfully qualified for the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics.
It is a historic day for India, where we have seen that Four Indian sailors will be representing the Indian flag in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. The Varun Thakkar, Ganapathy Chengappa pair and Vishnu Saravanan managed to qualify during the recent Asian Qualifiers in Oman on April 8, 2021.
It happens after, on April 7, Nethra Kumanan has achieved the entitlement of the first Indian woman sailor that has qualified for the Olympics in the laser radial event in Mussanah Open Championship.
India will be contesting in three Sailing events in the Olympics for the first time. Till date, India had accomplished only one event in all the previous Olympics while 2 Indian sailors had represented India 4 occurrence.
The Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulates and wishes all the qualifiers and specifically points out Nethra Kumanan becomes the first Indian woman sailor qualified for the Olympics.
Tokyo Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021. On the other hand, Paralympics will commence from August 24 to September 5, 2021 Earlier, the Olympics were planned to commence in 2020, but it was deferred due to the Covid19 pandemic that has affected sports events worldwide.
